The Tribe was founded by Kali Long in 2016. Kali’s vision has been to create a place of advocacy and empowerment for these vulnerable groups in order to clear their paths toward meaningful integration into local culture and society. Blending her expertise in humanitarian work and marketing, Kali narrowed Mia Tribe’s production focus to ethically-sourced, survivor-made fashion items such as jewelry, bags, and other wearable accessories.
In July 2017, Mia Tribe launched its flagship workshop in Thessaloniki, Greece. The workshop is the cornerstone of the Tribe’s enterprise; it is a place of training and community where the Tribe’s members come together to learn, grow, and thrive. The workshop’s programs provide members with training in hard skills, such as jewelry-making and sewing, as well as valuable exposure to manufacturing and business concepts such as Quality Assurance, productivity, efficiency, and teamwork.
Within the structure and framework of the workshop, members have a stable and compassionate environment in which they can build a basis of normalcy. The nature of the work allows for a creative outlet through which members can begin to get in touch with life again. Working as part of a team teaches skills that enable members to bring more stability to their own lives, while training on progressively difficult or intricate tasks provides a sense of individual growth and achievement.
Mia Tribe is a Greek Social Cooperative Enterprise (SCE) which services vulnerable people who are recognized as victims of domestic violence, victims of human trafficking, asylum seekers, economical migrants, single moms, those living under the line of poverty, and long-term unemployed individuals over the age of fifty.
